Wishing on Wednesday #7

Hello! And welcome to my weekly meme that is supposed to be posted here every Wednesday *tut*, so apologies for my shabby time keeping. It's just turned Thursday and here I am trying to sneak in a Wednesday post. Disgraceful.

The reason my post is so late; is because we have a new addition to the family and so I have been rather distracted:

This is Stanleigh-Rose...

Now usually on "Wishing on Wednesday", I post a wish idea, a: what would you wish in this scenario? kinda thing...
But this week I thought with the arrival of Stanleigh-Rose (I promise I will explain) I would do things a bit differently and ask you about wishes coming true...

Now, I have always loved animals. We were not a allowed pets growing up, not until the youngest was toddling and then to our sheer delight, mum bought us a border terrier-cross jack russel pup. Oh my goodness. Can you imagine it?! The utter joy. Max was my companion and a comfort. Then came the rabbits... we had quite a few... and then a few more as we didn't realise one was a male. (There was a lesson learnt!)

When I left home, I moved in with my partner-now-hubby; and convinced him we needed pets. So we had little Roborovski hamsters (cute little things but lightning quick... the under-the-sofa games we had to play with them... *sigh*) and then my land lady suggested (yes, she suggested the following, and I will love her forever for it!) we get pet rats. Oh; my pet dumbo rat Willow was an absolute star! We got her a friend to keep her company - Hazel. Then we were gifted a pair of male guinea pigs.... (Bennie and Leeroy)

Of course, these dear little critters grew older and we lost them. The last guinea pig passed away a good few months a go and the hutch has stood empty ever since.

With two small children to keep us busy, you would think that pets would be the last thing on my mind. But I felt like there was a tiny piece not quite filled.
Today, I took the children to a garden centre, that also sell pets. (They have a fantastic reputation for the breeding, care and after care of their animals - they will phone me in a week to see how my new bunny is getting on) I wasn't planning on it, but there she was, all on her own in her glass pen.

The other rabbits were stretched out in their own pens, just dosing, guinea pigs were squeaking and snuffling, and the other smaller animals were, well... doing what small animals do. Hiding. When we got to her, she stood up on her back legs with her front paws on the glass... then she got down and nosed and tossed the hay around... Okay. I was smitten.

Before I knew it the sales assistant was helping me back to the car with a trolley full of bunny essentials.
OJ, at this point is almost bursting with excitement and he wanted to call her Stanley, after a picture book entitled: That Rabbit Belongs To Emily Brown!

(The story is about a queen who desperately wants Emily Brown's old, grey, toy rabbit named; Stanley)

But then the shop assistant said the rabbit was a girl. OJ was adamant that her name was to be Stanley... So I improvised and made the "ley" into "Leigh". Some how "Rose" got onto the end. Maybe just to make it more feminine?! I didn't really have time to think about it, I concluded that it was meant to be. So Stanleigh-Rose it is!

This Wishing on Wednesday was about wish fulfilment... Have you had any wishes fulfilled lately?!

Wishing on Wednesday # 6

Welcome to my weekly meme: Wishing on Wednesday.

Here's the gist:

Each Wednesday I set a wish theme and ask my fellow bloggers for their thoughts and ideas about it.

The meme was inspired by the idea that we catch ourselves saying "I wish" on a daily basis, so I thought that we could turn it into a bit of fun as well as getting some interesting points of view.

If you have time, please do leave your reply or link to your own "Wishing on Wednesaday" post in the comments box below.

If you find a genie's lamp, it's mine... Honest!

This weeks wish:

If you could wish for one other talent (added to your already established list of course!) what would you wish for and why?!

My A:

Hmmm...

I guess it would have to be something outgoing for me, as I am so shy in real life.

I had dreams when I was young about being a singer.
Even if I had the bottle, I still couldn't be convinced to sing in front of people. I'm being honest, seriously... Even if you handed me that bucket, I still wouldn't be able to carry a tune!
(I know, you would think that as a nursery nurse and mum; I would be used to singing to kids all the time, but somehow that's different...)

I'm a Leo, and, if you believe in star signs contributing to personality, then by rights I should be the confident, happy-in -the-lime -light, entertainer sort... But no. I am more of a back stage kinda gal... (More like the cowardly lion from OZ!)

Come to think of it, given the opportunity, I would probably also like to play an instrument. I wanted to play flute, piano and drums whilst in school... But  we never had the money to pay for the tuition.
A few years ago, I went to see a local folk band play and I fell in love with the Bodhran drum.
I was so mesmerised that I went and bought a small, practise Bodhran. I was doing quite well, but couldn't find anyone to teach me further, so because I wasn't progressing, it just kind of stopped...

So, I think if I could wish for an extra talent, it would definitely have to be something musical...

What would your chosen talent be?!

Happy Wednes... Oh Cr*p...  It's technically Thursday! When did that happen?! (How long have I been typing?!)

"Double Bodhrans" - The Gothard Sisters (live 2011)

Now that is impressive!

Wishing on Wednesday #5

Welcome to my weekly meme - Wishing on Wednesday... Erm... Yep, I know what day is. This post is a little late so please excuse me... I was at the cinema with my sister to see Men in Black 3 yesterday... (What a fiasco, but that's best saved for another rant... *cough* I mean, post) We had loads of laughs and it was great to kick back for the afternoon whilst my hubby and mum-in-law had the cubs.

So, lets get to it it quick before Friday creeps in...

This weeks wish was actually inspired by an advertisment in the cinema.

"Win a lead role in a Dark Knight mini-movie"

(Of course, me being me, and for the fact my eyes were still adjusting to post removal of  uncomfy 3D glases, I read it as Win a lead role in the movie...)

This week's wish

I wish I was a film star!

Film Strip Clip Art

So you are walking along the street, minding your own business when you are spotted by a talent scout. They approach you and ask you to star in a movie... Which movie and what role are you asked to do?

A: Oooooooooooooooh... tough one... There are so many to choose from, past present and future releases...

I have lots of favourite movies, mostly horror, so if I played a lead role in this type of film, I would have to be some like Alice in Resdient Evil who kicks zombie butt!

On the other end of the scale, I would love to be in a muppets movie! It just looks loads of fun and so well done. HAHAHA! I know, I'm a big kid. Muppet Treasure island is a firm favourite. It makes me laugh every time...

I have heard through the grapevine, that my favourite horror writer, Adam Nevill, might be having his book "Apartment 16" made into a movie. The book is scary s**t. Goodness knows how they will capture and recreate the atmosphere Nevill creates in his book... But I wouldn't mind playing Apryl given half the chance... (It would never work out for me, Apryl is American, I can't do accents!)

If you haven't heard about Apartment 16, here's the blurb taken from Goodreads:
Some doors are better left closed . . . In Barrington House, an upmarket block in London, there is an empty apartment. No one goes in, no one comes out. And it's been that way for fifty years. Until the night watchman hears a disturbance after midnight and investigates. What he experiences is enough to change his life forever. A young American woman, Apryl, arrives at Barrington House. She's been left an apartment by her mysterious Great Aunt Lillian who died in strange circumstances. Rumours claim Lillian was mad. But her diary suggests she was implicated in a horrific and inexplicable event decades ago. Determined to learn something of this eccentric woman, Apryl begins to unravel the hidden story of Barrington House. She discovers that a transforming, evil force still inhabits the building. And the doorway to Apartment 16 is a gateway to something altogether more terrifying . . .

So what movie would you wish to be in?! Happy wishing!

Wishing on Wednesday #4

Welcome to my weekly "Wishing on Wednesday" meme.

We all do plenty of it; so I thought it would be cool to blog about it.

Please do share your thoughts/leave a link to your own "Wishing on Wednesday" post, would love to hear what you all think...

Thisweekswish

Okay. Just imagine the Tardis has appeared out of thin air *wharmwhawmwhawm...* (you try imitating the materialisation of the Tardis through words - not easy uh?!)
The Tardis...
5 star time travel

So, you jump in, where do set it to take you?

I wish I could visit the time of...

There are several points in time I wouldn't mind visiting.

Black Sabbath
Th first place I would go, has to be the 70's. Purely so I could see the legendary "Black Sabbath" play..

But then I would also have to visit the 50's and 60's too... I would love to learn the dances... There really is a wonderful feeling in the music of this time. It was being made at a time of real progression and I totally respect that.
Twistin' the night away

Okay, I know the next time is just a romanticised view but the oh, the long dresses, riding horses, knights, castles and princes... medieval times had it all apparently. Might be nice to be a princess for a day... what d'ya reckon?!

So what about you? Where would you go? What would you do? I've only looked at the past - would you rather go and visit the future?

Wishing on Wednesday #3

Hello!

Welcome to my weekly Wishing on Wednesday meme (#3) ...
The idea is simple, each week I will post a 'wish' along with my answer. It would be super awesome if you could join in too! Leave your comments or a link to your post so we can check out each others answers.

Please feel free to leave a suggestion for future wish themes too!

Pulling it out of the hat

This weeks wish:

I wish I had more time to.....

I had to set this as the wish for this week as I am always thinking/saying this!

We would all love a little extra time in the day to do the things we want or even need to do, but if a genie was to appear now and grant this wish, what would you use this extra time to do?

If my list was on paper, it would probably unroll a very, very long way! Ha!

I won't go through them all, but I will list my top five things I would do if I had more time...

  • More activities with the kids - I sometimes miss the one-to-one time I used to get with my eldest boy... We used to do a lot more creative activities, the paint and play dough was out a lot more than what it is now. Now the routine is a bit more tight, with all the extra bits I have to do....
  • More time to READ! I am always saying this. I love sinking into a book. Along with a cup of tea and maybe a couple of choccy nibbles and I feel complete...
  • More time to write - Blogging and writing a like. By the time I get to sit down to write and actually get into it, it's the early hours of the morning and I don't produce my best work. I'm stuck in a bit of a vicious circle... (A better routine will help with that!)
  • More time to finish a project - mmm... there are many examples of unfinished projects around the house, but it would be nice to finish my baby blanket project when my youngest is still a baby... *sigh*
  • More time to learn something new - I would love to get back into education... I would especially want to get on a writing course, but also, as a nursery nurse I would love to study child psychology.
So there we are; I did quite well condensing the mammoth size list into five points... What would you do with some extra time?!

Happy Wednesday everyone!!!

Wishing On Wednesay #2

Hello!

Welcome to my Wishing on Wednesday meme (#2) ...

Wands at the ready...
This weeks' wish:

If you could wish to meet any author who would it be and why? (And what would you chat about?!)

A:
I think it would be fantastic to sit down for a chat with an author over a caramel macchiato and slice of cake... but who would I pick if I could wish to meet any author? It's only one wish so I would I have to make it count...

Hmm... Someone from the past maybe? A tad awkward I feel, no chatting would get done as they would probably freak out at being whipped out of their time...

It would have to be someone from now then...

It's a difficult decision to make as there are so many authors that it would be an absolute honour to meet; such as Terry Pratchett, James Herbert, Lee Childs...

Okay, I think my choice would have to be Adam Nevill.

Why?

I love the horror genre!

I started reading horror in my early teens... (*Which surprised my mother as I was freaked out by the Return to OZ movie when I was a kid. It was something about that queen collecting heads and putting them in glass display cabinets... Freaky!) I started with Goosebumps and Point Horror novels, (Thank you Mr R. L. Stine!) and it just grew from there!

And this was supposed to be a kid's movie?!
YIKES!

What I love about it most, is that you can explore your inner most fears in safety. Anything really scary and you can just close the book. (And put it in the freezer like Joey did in Friends...)

And talented, british horror writer Adam Nevill; explores some well spooky, scary concepts in his novels...

What I like about his writing is that he doesn't rely on blood and guts gore to scare his readers.
Although a healthy side helping of that is always useful in a horror story!
What he does, is build layer upon layer of tension through great descriptive writing. The imagery drags his readers into the book alongside the characters for an incredibly, nail-biting journey!

As for what I would chat to him about, I would like to talk to him about his inspirations for his supernatural tales and where they come from!

So who would you pick and why?

Happy Wishing Wednesday folks!

The  mind behind "Apartment 16"... Adam Nevil

Wishing on Wednesday

Hello Fellow Bloggers!

This post is a little late due to technical-mummy-couldn't-get-to-the-computer-until-now difficulties, but here in the UK, it's still Wednesday, so I reckon I can get away with it as it is the first one...

I thought I would try this new idea: a weekly meme around wishing... Each Wednesday I will take a wish theme and we share what we would wish about it... hmmm.. that sounded soooooooo much better in my head but we shall run with it and see if it takes off...

The twist with this meme is that I would like others to put forward a wish theme for next week (I will too!) I will then put up a poll to see which one people would be most interested in doing. All you have to do is post your comment (or link to your post) along with your suggestion.

I'm going to kick-of this Wednesday's wish theme with:

Garden Wishes

I don't know about you, but I love my garden... and I love plants. This is my favourite:

A beautiful African Violet. I don't know why it's my fave. It's just that this pretty little flower makes me smile as I am stood doing the washing up! It was given to me by my hubby's auntie and somehow, I have managed to look after it for two years...

My garden wish would be: I wish I had more success when it came to growing plants! I'm telling you, I am hopeless. My mother in-law gives us plants but I forget to water them or something and they inevitably die! My lovely neighbour has just given me six tomato plant cuttings... I tried to warn her about my track record but she just laughed and simply said she has more if I need them...

So what what's your garden wish? Is there a feature you would particularly like in your garden? How would you like it to look etc. And what would you wish for next weeks theme?!

This would be mine: Is there an author you would wish to meet?
